When is rootcanal treatment necessary?

Rootcanal or nerve treatment is necessary in case of inflammation of your rootcanal. A tooth can become inflamed due to tooth decay, a leaking filling or a fall.

What are (possible) signs of an inflamed rootcanal?

What is the difference between rootcanal treatment and nerve treatment?

Rootcanal treatment and nerve treatment are the same dental procedure in which the inflamed tissue is removed from the rootcanal.

Why should an inflamed nerve be treated?

If you do not go to the dentist for rootcanal treatment, the pain will get worse and the inflammation will migrate to the jawbone. This is because the rootcanals, through the root tips, are connected to the jawbone.

Which insurance covers rootcanal treatment?

If you are under 18 years old, rootcanal treatment will be fully reimbursed by your health insurer’s basic insurance. If you are 18 years or older, rootcanal treatment will not be reimbursed from the basic insurance.

We always advise to check with your insurer, prior to treatment, whether you are entitled to reimbursement. We also recommend that you then inquire directly which procedures and examinations of the treatment will be reimbursed, in many cases only a certain percentage or amount.

Is rootcanal treatment painful?

The treatment often takes place under local anaesthetic and is usually painless. In some cases, an anaesthetic is not necessary. There may be post-operative pain and in some cases swelling. This lasts a few days to a week and can generally be controlled well with paracetamol or ibuprofen.

How long does a treatment last?

Depending on the degree of difficulty, rootcanal treatment can be done in two sessions.
